Summary/Abstract: After the theoretical analysis of media and its influence on children and emphasizing the need for media literacy, the paper presents the results of research on the importance of school counselor in promoting media literacy. The research findings show that there is a need to work on promoting media literacy in schools. The main reasons for this are the increasing exposure to media content, the understanding of media as a factor influencing children and adolescents, the uncertainty about the importance of media literacy and the inadequate, i.e. inappropriate, presentation of this content in the classroom. As the most appropriate forms of promoting media literacy, the research participants mainly mentioned workshops, projects, prevention programs, cooperation with other school stakeholders, organizing visits to institutions and conducting research and providing training programs on media literacy in schools.
