Summary/Abstract: In the landscape of Romanian post-war prose, ConstantinToiu’s work represents a space where the talented writer, the formidable essayist, the appreciated publicist and the valuable memoirist all meet. Even though he biologically belongs to the war generation, ConstantinȚoiu does not begin his work with those of his age, because the need to write manifested itself later, being caused by the installation of the communist regime and accumulation of remarkable experiences. Witnessing the abuses of the dictatorship, ConstantinȚoiu feels the need to be honest, to tell the truth, investing his work with an ethical function. The novels, the articles, the essays and the written memoires reveal the fate of a writer who paid attention to the history lesson taught to him by contemporaneity and a vigilant intellectual, aware of the importance of receiving and transmitting the truth
