Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the noun emoji or emodži. The originally Japanese word was borrowed into Czech via English (emoji), and the Czech transcribed spelling emodži is gaining ground as well. This uninflected noun is still somewhat unstable with respect to gender: it is used most often as a neuter noun but also as a masculine noun vacillating between animacy and inanimacy.
