Summary/Abstract: International Criminal Court convicted Dominic Ongwen for crimes against humanity and war crimes which took place in Northern Uganda between 1 July 2002 and 31 December 2005. During the course of the trial, the Chamber has heard, from a large number of witnesses, terrible accounts of these events and of the extreme suffering that the civilian population of Northern Uganda experienced during this time. The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has been active since the 1980s and the conflict in Northern Uganda has spanned four decades. This case has therefore also shed light on the history of Northern Uganda in the past decades, and on the suffering of its people during the conflict.
