Summary/Abstract: Hiatal hernias are characterized by the passage of the abdominal organs into the thoracic cavity through the natural expansion of the diaphragm. A hernia diagnosed in adulthood may be asymptomatic. Some patients experience symptoms of acid reflux such as heartburn, belching, and retrosternal pain. If the symptoms persist for many years, the esophagus may be narrowed, including erosions resulting from reflux, and even hernia incarceration, with the development of life-threatening gastrointestinal obstruction. Extensive hiatal hernias can contain many abdominal organs. In this paper we present the clinical case of a 79-years old patient with a diagnosis of sliding hiatal hernia of the diaphragm with displacement of the pancreas to the chest and an active SARS-CoV-2 infection.
