FIRST STUDIES OF THE SLAVONIC-SERBIAN LEXIS

Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the first studies of the Slavonic-Serbian lexis. Although beginnings in the study of the Slavonic-Serbian language, including the lexis of the given period, are tied to the 1960s, Serbian linguistic scholars often disregard the fact that research had occurred even before. In relation to this, the author puts emphasis on the positions and thoughts on the Slavonic-Serbian lexis of these first linguists, as well as first literary critics and historians during the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Special attention is given to their relationship to the non-popular lexis – lexical slavisms, on the one hand, and to foreign and loan words coming from non-Slavic languages, on the other hand.
