SKY OF THE SERBIAN ENLIGHTENMENT

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the images of sky in the Serbian literature of the 18th century on the excerpts from the works of the most important representatives of the Age of Enlightenment such as Jovan Rajić, Zaharije Orfelin, Dimitrije Dositej Obradović, Atanasije Stojković and Mihailo Maksimović. Such a thematically profiled corpus indicates the Enlightenment concept of the sky ranging from factographic and scientific (astronomy, physics, chemistry, natural philosophy, mechanics), through mythological and folklore to theological and philosophical. The analysis of the discourse where the sky appears in the works of Serbian authors of the Age of Enlightenment reveals various typological features of the poetics of Enlightenment, so among these images the following elements can be singled out: 1) philosophical-ideological enlightenment, 2) popular enlightenment, 3) religious enlightenment, 4) scientific enlightenment.
