Summary/Abstract: The case of Roman Stoicism, perhaps after that of Socrates’ philosophy in Athens, but with a much wider spread and increased pervasion, is exemplary for the capacity of philosophy to actually become praxis, to reach our very ontological structures. Anyway, what will enter the common consciousness as the exemplary Stoic behaviour, as a way of being in the world, comes from the Romans. They, particularly with Seneca and Marcus Aurelius, had given Stoicism such an orientation and had shaped it in such a way as to pervade the deep structures of Roman mentality.
