Summary/Abstract: The problems of economic growth and development occupy one of the central places in economic sciences. One of the most interesting cases of countries that have recently achieved high economic growth rates is India. The research of this state is justified and interesting as it is the only so large, populous and diversified country, which, while maintaining a democratic system, successfully entered the path of rapid economic growth. The aim of this article is to examine and present the policies and processes of economic growth in India since gaining independence. The obtained research results allow for the conclusion that the Indian economy has shifted to a new path of growth. However, unlike many economies that have also introduced stabilization and transformation programs, India has not experienced a sharp slowdown in long-term.
