Summary/Abstract: This study focused on the relationship between carbon dioxide emissions convergence and institutional quality in ECOWAS between 2002 and 2016. Over this period, the level of CO2 emissions has been on the rise within the region and it becomes very important to conduct a study of this sort to find out if there exists a convergence of carbon emissions. Six indicators of institutional quality were used in the study as regressors. Both the parametric and non-parametric tests were conducted. The results revealed that voice and accountability, rule of law, and control of corruption have positive impacts on CO2 emissions convergence while political stability, government effectiveness, and regulatory quality have negative impacts on CO2 emissions convergence in these countries. Hence, the study recommended that regulatory authorities should strive to design appropriate long-term policies that can enhance institutional quality with the aim of abating CO2 emissions in the long run.
