Summary/Abstract: During the interwar period, the Wieluń County was a borderland area, as a part of its border was at the same time a part of the national border between Poland and Germany. Such a state of affairs was connected not only with certain potential benefits, but also with real limitations that were imposed on the inhabitants of discussed area (and on individuals attempting to settle there) by the local government. The aforementioned limitations were strictly connected with the necessity to protect both interests and widely-understood safety of the Polish nation. During the twenty years of independence, regulations introduced in legal acts of 1920, 1927, and 1937 were of predominant importance, for they were related to the entirety of the Wieluń County or to parts thereof. Among the most problematic ones for the inhabitants (predominantly for peasants) were regulations introducing the necessity to register animals owned and the need to obtain permits for land sale or purchase. The characteristic feature of all said regulations was the gradual nature of limitations imposed: there were the strictest next to the border and became more lenient with distance.
