Summary/Abstract: The haiku, the briefest poem, originated in the Japanese culture, is conquering the Western World, challenging the literary critics. The objective of the present communication is to analyze and compare haiku poems of Bulgarian poets (M. Liubenova, P. Chuhov, M. Ribarova) to haiku poems of Portuguese poets (Luisa Freire, José T. Mendonça, Casimiro de Brito), on the basis of the disjunction process, operating in both languages. Thereby, we hope to show the contribution of the Portuguese and Bulgarian poets to the originality of the occidental haiku.
