Summary/Abstract: The hero trope has for a long time been a male dominated territory. Even the Harry Potter series, although written by a woman, feature a male hero. The female readers of the Harry Potter series, however, wanted a hero to identify with, thus, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins came to fill up the space left by Harry Potter. These novels offer their female readers not just an opportunity to identify with the hero, but also a critical view on what it is like to be a hero and a woman at the same time. This article aims to identify the main differences between the male and the female hero within the same genre (young adult literature).
