Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of Peter the Great in the process of socio-cultural interaction of Russia with China and Japan at the beginning of the XVIII century. His contribution to this process was truly invaluable. Through his activities, the first Russian emperor laid the foundations for the creation of a unified Eurasian socio-cultural space and formed the paradigm of Eurasian policy of the Russian Empire. During this period, Russian-Chinese trade began to develop actively bringing a large number of Chinese goods to Russia and generating a keen interest in Chinese art. Peter’s personal attention to Japan largely determined the further development of Russian-Japanese relations and the emergence of Japanese studies in Russia. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that it presents the first comprehensive analysis of the problem, raising theoretical and methodological issues and determining the place of Peter the Great’s era in the process of socio-cultural interaction between Russia and East Asian countries. The Relevance of the topic today is due to the need for a deeper study of the history of the inter-civilizational dialogue.
