Concrete and Memory

Summary/Abstract: przeł. Katarzyna Bojarska The text, which comes from Urban Memory: History and Amnesia in the Modern City, edited by M. Crimson, is an attempt at analysing the relations between the use of concrete as a building material with memory conceived as the space of cultural and political negotiation. Taking into consideration a number of celebrated monuments the author tries to show the discussion surrounding them and the ambivalence of employing this specific material for commemorating traumatic events from the past.
