Compulsory external foreign language exams in Poland in 2021 with English exams as an example

Summary/Abstract: In the article, the author gives an overview of the present stage of the current educational reform on the basis of the English final exams at the second and third educational stages in 2021, comparing certain aspects of a relatively newly created primary school compulsory English exam and the standard level final English exam (called “Matura exam”). The author also discusses the latest exam results, concluding that, taking into account the current complex COVID-19 situation, most exam takers still managed to succeed and the exams, regardless of the undesirable epidemics-related modifications, fulfilled their role.
