Summary/Abstract: Gerard Siwek, CSsR (1938–2015) is one of the most prominent Polish homileticians and preachers of the recent years. The text first introduces the story of his life and his scientific and academic achievements, which is subsequently followed by the presentation of homiletic and preaching work of the redemptorist, with particular emphasis on retreat issues constituting his main area of interest. The third part of the article is attempt to present Fr Gerard Siwek’s concept of retreat in his scientific activity and homiletic practice. The remaining part of the article comprises extensive excerpts from the previously unpublished interview conducted with the redemptorist in 2011 by the author of the article.
