Summary/Abstract: Using the example of the Greek Catholic Cantor-Teacher Training Institute in Uzhhorod, which was continuously operating in the period under study, the study describes the national and religious changes that affected the population of Uzhhorod in the first half of the 20th century. Using the census data (1910, 1921, 1930, 1941) and the source material provided by the school reports, the author shows the linguistic, ethnic and religious changes that took place in the period between the two world wars. Some of the school reports have been lost or destroyed, so it is important to outline the changes that took place in the cantor-teacher training school at local level, especially in the years after Trianon, when power changed. Some of the source material was available in Hungarian, Ruthenian and Slovak in connection with the changes in power, and until 1918 the school reports were published only in Hungarian. The research can be divided into three main periods: 1. 1914–1918: the period of World War I, when Uzhhorod was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. 2. 1919–1938: Transcarpathia, including Uzhhorod, was part of the Czechoslovak Republic. 3. 1938–1944: the period after the first Vienna decision, when Transcarpathia was briefly returned to Hungary. All three periods were marked by the changes that are reflected in the statistical data used for this research.
