Summary/Abstract: The parliamentary elections of November 19th, 1946 in Dâmboviţa County, aswell as those in other counties, took place in a tense atmosphere, generated by theactions of the Romanina Communist Party (P.C.R.) and of his allies, gathered in theBloc of Democratic Parties (B.P.D.) in order to achieve victory at all costs. B.P.D.acted not only to popularize its candidates and its electoral program, but also todiscredit the opposition, consisting mainly of the National Peasant Party (P.N.Ţ.)and the National Liberal Party (P.N.L.). As a result, the electoral campaign ofB.P.D. went beyond the law; many illegalities were perpetrated, such as: the"reactionaries'" surveillance and arrest, the sabotage of the meetings, exaggeratedcriticism of the leaders of the P.N.Ţ. and P.N.L., the rigging of the electoral lists, thepostponing of the issuance of voters' cards in some localities, searches, arrests, interventions of the "shock teams", violence, etc.The opposition sought to counter the actions of B.P.D., by using various wayssuch as: person-to-person propaganda, the spread of the central press andinformative materials, trips to the county, memoranda and appeals addressed to theauthorities, the formation of self-defense teams, etc. The final result of the electionwas modified by the B.P.D. which, according to the official data, "obtained" 82% ofthe vote, although in reality, according to the documents published by the historianPetre Ţurlea, the results showed 40% for B.P.D. and 60% for the opposition.
