Summary/Abstract: Židovar is the site of greatest importance for research of later prehistory of Sebia and wider region. In its rich stratigraphic sequence, the latest archaeological layers, recognized as belonging to the Late La Tène, have been attracting researchers’ attention in greatest extent. Interpretations of various aspects of life in this Late La Tène settlement have been brought into public, however questions about essential economic activities have remained uncleared. In order to offer an insight into some of them, strategies of animal husbandry and hunting in the first place, an archaeozoological analysis of animal remains from 1977 excavation campaign was employed. Obtained data provide a starting point for comprehension of subsistence strategies of the Late La Tène inhabitants of Židovar.Despite the results are preliminary, it is surprising that the wild animals remains make more than two thirds of the analysed sample, while the remains of domestic animals, which are generally dominant in Late La Tène settlements, make less than one third of the Židovar sample. Among wild animals, deer is most represented, while among domestic animals most numerous are remains of domestic pig, cattle, sheep and goat. The causes that led to the high presence of wild animals have not been solved up to now. Still, the results raise numerous questions and provide a solid base for future research.
