Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the word burka and its synonyms: burek, burczak, burczanka i burocha. The word burka found in the Lublin dialects refers to five related designata, meaning: 1) ‘an overwear made of thick dark cloth or felt having the form of a cape worn during the travel’; 2) ‘a large checked woolen headscarf with fringes put by women over the head and shoulders’; 3) ‘warm woolen skirt’; 4) ‘woollen or linen waist apron’; 5) ‘work and farmhouse apron’. The map of the geographic boundaries of the linguistic forms discussed has been drawn on the basis of the linguistic usage collected from eight hundred 70–90 year old residents of 400 villages of the Lublin region.
