Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to answer the question of how the working class impacted the shape of the debate about planned urban self-gov- ernment in the Kingdom of Poland during and after the Revolution of 1905. Recognizing the fact that the events between 1905 and 1907 were an “urban revolution,” I analyze press articles and books on the subject published at that time. What follows is a detailed description of the impact of the work- ing class on visions of urban modernity and concepts of “municipal socialism” and “national capitalism” which emerged during these debates and dominated urban politics in the Second Polish Republic.
