Counterintelligence analysis – between „cogito ergo sum” and „fiat lux”

Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to be an incursion into the field of counterintelligence (CI) analysis which is essential in order to achieve a security agenda established by political and military decision makers. Being such a vast domain connected with psychology, security studies, law, military tactics, CI analysis should be enframed between some solid borders. The Latin phrases “cogito ergo sum” and “fiat lux” have in their core some characteristics which can be found in the process of counterintelligence analysis. This is the main reason why this paper tries to explain the similarities between the CI analysis and those phrases. In addition to that, during these pages, relevant aspects for the CI analysis such as critical thinking and cognitive biases is approached, as well as the relationships between CI organizations and political and military decision makers.
