Summary/Abstract: Once the quantum computers may come to be ready for use one day, lots of scientific fields would be affected. One of the most notable impacted sciences would be cryptography since the majority of asymmetric primitives are not secure against adversaries with quantum computing processing power. This threat is already anticipated and cryptographers are analyzing and developing new potentially quantum-safe variants for the affected primitives. On the contrary, symmetric primitives seem to be less affected by quantum computing: the most important result by now is Grover’s algorithm that quadratically speeds-up the exhaustive search of the key.
