Ensuring security and defense in Arctic Area. Challenges for NATO and allied states

Summary/Abstract: The Arctic Zone becomes more and more a top topic on the international agenda, the region’s security and defence being a concern for both the arctic states and other state actors which have interests to exploit the resources and to use the maritime routes becoming available. In the paper are underlined the international cooperation formats, the strategies and iterests of the arctic and non-arctic states, concerns for allied states regarding own interests’ promotion and protection, measures for increasing the military presence, aspects regarding strategic competition among global actors for this region.
