Summary/Abstract: Referring to the literary activity of Ion Heliade-Rădulescu, we can distinguish 2 periods. First, a pre-revolutionary period, which ended around 1840, a period that was - generally speaking - positive, with romantic enthusiasm and exaltations, but also impressively constructive, especially from a cultural point of view. The second period, after 1840, was generally confused, with many ambiguities in the political, social and literary field. Both these periods represent, after all, aspects of the same personality, making it hard, if not impossible, to reconcile. And this is why Ion Heliade-Rădulescu can be considered as a bipolar and contradictory artistic personality, that can only be understood through the synthesis of the multiple antithetical voices in his creative personality.
