Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the article is to outline the initial steps for the establishment of the Pirin national park in the 1960s and 1970s and the first legislative initiatives taken by the state (Vihren National Park, Pirin Public Park and Pirin National Park) and the increase of its territory and scope. It also monitors the development of the park and the expansion of activities, as well as the attitude and participation of the population ane the changes that occur in people's lives with the creation of the park. The forms, through which the government strives to preserve but also to use the natural wealth of the mountain and the changes in the attitudes of the population towards the surrounding nature, are also presented. Archives, materials from the museum in the town of Razlog and publications on the subject were used.
