Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the fate of some of the most remarkable similarities in the morphology and the syntax of Bulgarian and Greek (the so-called Balkanisms). The author outlines the major trends regarding the innovations in the grammatical systems of the two languages, resulting mostly from interlingual processes of language development. In some cases, the innovations have been facilitated by foreign-language influence, and sometimes they have to do with cognitive changes in the thinking and the conceptualization of reality by native speakers. The analysis focuses on the relation between Balkanisms and various innovations which might have been enhanced by them.
