Summary/Abstract: The paper is about the parliamentary debate on the abolishment of the right of patronage which took place in the Legislative Sejm in March 1920 . It also includes in-formation about the historical background of the topic . The issue of the further existence of the right of patronage was first presented to the parliament by politicians from peas-ant movement who wanted to democratize it . Simultaneously, right-wing parties and the authorities of the Roman Catholic Church supported the idea of the total abolishment of the right of patronage . Although the parliamentary debate did not finish with a formal solution to the problem, it was a significant opportunity for a social discussion on the ideological issues and the role of the Roman Catholic Church in an independent Poland
