Summary/Abstract: Based on Vladimír Macura’s concept of ‚translativity‘, the paper deals with the perform ative effects of translation in 19th century in Bohemian lands. Using the example of the translations of the novella Láska básníkova (Die Liebe des Dichters) by Josef Kajetán Tyl and the novel Schwarzgelb (Černožlutí) by Alfred Meißner, the paper analyses the specific strategies which enabled the translators and publishers to reinterpret and reveal new meanings of the texts in a new context. Finally the paper corrects the original concept of ‚translativity‘ by pointing out the processuality and situative, regional and social contex tuality of translation.
