Summary/Abstract: The article gathers found words that used to be used in substitution of today’s wędrowiec (wayfarer), powsinoga (gadabout) or podróżnik (wanderer). A detailed analysis covers those selected from them. The attention was paid to the transformation of their meanings, multiplicity of derivational variants, as well as traces of those lexemes forgotten in modern Polish, especially at the time of onomastics. Besides, common features were observed when comparing some synonymous words of a vagrant (connected with the element, daytime, a positive or negative semantic marking, as well as means of transporting) giving a basis for arranging them in four groups.
