Summary/Abstract: Political communication often aims at establishing a community. By participating in a discourse, the discourse actors position themselves not only on the given topic, but also with other participants in the discourse; they are often actors and/or representatives of specific communities of practice (cf. Eckert & McConnel-Ginet 1992). Based on these considerations, the contribution examines linguistic practices with an effect of creating or denying community at the example of the German migration discourse. Applying a discourse analytical approach, the analysis of a corpus of plenary debates focuses on the linguistic realisation of self- and other-positioning.
