An epidemic of fear and war mobilization

The first month of pandemic public discourse in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The following article presents the results of research conducted on Polish public discourse during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic from March 2nd until July 5th. Few languages used during the pandemic were distinguished on the basis of weekly collections of words and phrases registered in “Słowa na czasie” project – they were the languages of1) war, 2) fear, 3) totality, 4) help, 5) control, 6) gentleness, 7) economics. This method allowed for the presentation and interpretation of the main tendencies in the public discourse during the most dramatic period of the pandemic.
