Summary/Abstract: The article explores the relevant aspects of educators’ professional culture: knowledge in the relevant field; culture of communication, including didactic communication; educational skill; and a capacity for reflection, from which creativity and freedom of action derive. Since culture cannot be assessed with a clear and easily applicable instrument, professional culture is not to be found as a separate entity in the Methodology for the Assessment of Educators. However, both the decision-makers who design the path of professional development for educators and the educators themselves need to invest in the development of professional culture. Professional culture cannot evolve without the personal effort of every actor, despite any number of further education seminars; and without the involvement of decision-makers, who would trace a track for continuous learning, the development of professional competences shall remain either a distant wish, or a self-directed adventure.
