Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to identify the features of documentary drama as a new genre education of domestic television; to study and generalize the subjective and objective aspects of its effective functioning in the context of postmodern tendencies and the process of infotainment of the media space. Methodology. The historical-cultural method was applied, which helped to study various aspects of the origin and development of documentary drama in retrospect, as well as to understand the formation of the genre in the context of the specifics of domestic television space at the beginning of the XXI century; typological, thanks to which the attributive characteristics of the docudrama are revealed; a comparative method, the application of which made it possible to compare the characteristic features of foreign and domestic docudrama. Scientific novelty. Documentary drama as a specific genre education of foreign television in the second half of the twentieth century has been studied. and the peculiarities of the origin and development of the docudrama on Ukrainian television have been clarified. It is stated that the direction of development of modern television documentary in general and the genre of documentary drama in particular, is due to the specifics of the artistic search for postmodernism, aimed at expressing the inner life of man. It was revealed that the typical features of infotainment (artificially enhanced plot drama; thematic direction designed to enhance the emotional response of the viewer; approximation of drama to the formulas of the Hollywood film industry, etc.) first clearly manifested in the American docudrama. Conclusions. In the process of finding ways to synthesize documentary and non-documentary, Ukrainian television art seeks to find ways to solve complex in-depth problems, in particular innovative opportunities to create universal genre and species forms. The study showed that the development of domestic television documentaries (the early 2000s) takes place mainly in the format of infotainment - the desire to make it commercially successful and popular leads to integration into the global process of creating entertainment television. At the present stage, the docudrama, which tells about real events and emphasizes expensive reconstructions, is positioned as an important strategic direction of the Ukrainian documentary. The focus on the entertainment of the viewer determines the specifics of its subject.
