Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history of the harvest festival (called “dożynki”) in Poland from the Stalinist times until the 1980s. It shows its organization and course in particular periods, however, it puts the greatest emphasis on the ideological significance of this holiday of the Polish village “stolen” by the communists. It also shows resistance on the part of the Catholic Church and the rural community towards the appropriation of centuries-old tradition by the authorities. The text is based on archival research conducted in Warsaw, Kraków and Gdańsk.
