Summary/Abstract: Kole Čašule was a playwright, short story writer, essayist and a novelist. He has published twenty-four plays, twelve novels, four collections of short stories, six books of essays, a monograph and several hundred feuilletons, commentaries, travelogues, theater and film reviews, controversies, interviews. He is one of the founding fathers of contemporary Macedonian literature. The reason for this text is the celebration of 100 years’ anniversary of his birth. From the extensive work of Čašule, in this text we have focused on the book Notes on the Nation and Literature (1985). There, on 550 pages, he presented his views on: the Macedonian language; Macedonian literature; Macedonian history; Balkan cooperation; foreign interests; foreign policy; the role of the writer; the Macedonian question, etc., in the period between 1967/68 and1983/4. His writing on these issues fully corresponds to the events and policies that are happening related to the Macedonian issue today.
