Summary/Abstract: The Cyrillo-Methodian tradition, which is seen as part of the Great Moravian tradition since the 17th century, is a stable part of Slovak history and literature. It represents a phenomenon, which has been used as an argumentation point in an attempt to legitimize various political and cultural efforts of the Slovak nation. The themes inspired by Ss. Cyril and Methodius have also been reflected in the 20th century in poetry, prose and drama. The Thessalonian brothers are used as literary characters in the works of important poets representing various literary streams, such as Štefan Krčméry, Vojtech Mihálik, the Franciscan Rudolf Dilong or Viliam Turčány. The topic of Ss. Cyril and Methodius was fully implemented in the work of Milan Ferko, a representative of modern Slovak historical prose. It has also sometimes been part of various drama and radio plays. This paper describes specific individual literary works.
