The colloquial style in the translation of Biljana Srbljanović’s plays

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the role and function of the colloquial style in Biljana Srbljanović’s plays and investigate problems they caused in the process of translation. In order to achieve that the theoretical and methodological approach to the term “colloquialism” is compared in two languages: Serbian and Polish. Based on that it is concluded that colloquialism often present the linguistic picture of the world of a society in a very explicit manner and because of that it cannot be translated from one language to another without losing some aspect of cultural and contextual meaning.
