Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article, presenting anti-constitutional thought of Dyzma Bończa Tomaszewski, one of the most famous opponents of Ustawa rządowa (Governmental Statut) on 3 may 1791, is to investigate the problem of Rousseau’s influences upon Polish republican thought of the Four Year Sejm. Tracing in detail Tomaszewski’s argumentation helps to detect the possibilities of the French Revolution patron’s influence on the criticism over the great work of Polish reform, what is controversial to later historians. Although it is easy to find certain obstacles to such intellectual impact, especially in the fields of social reform, the author of the article rather suggests that it should not be necessarily interpreted as paradoxical.
