The Language of Politics – the Present State and Possible Research Perspectives

Summary/Abstract: Bożena Sieradzka-Baziur’s article, The Language of Politics – the present state and possible research perspectives, is a short overview of the achievements of Polish politolinguistics. The language of political communication is a functional alternation of Polish language. Linguists investigating this special alternation of language focused on the language status in many of their works. Some of the politolinguistics publications on the political communication focus on the specific period or type of discourse, e.g.: the Second Republic of Poland, Polish People’s Republic, martial law’s times, and the Third Republic; policy-makers’ language, election campaigns, parliamentary speeches, political documents, political discourse of Polish newspapers, language of political parties as well as the totalitarian (newspeak) and antitotalitarian discourse. The most prominent Polish linguists focusing on these issues are (among others): W. Pisarek, J. Bralczyk, B. Walczak, I. Kamińska-Szmaj, K. Ożóg, J. Bartmiński, and a well-known literary theory specialist – M. Głowiński. One can assume that in the future the linguists should continue already started (and mentioned in this article) research topics; it necessary, however, to write some books summarizing the existing achievements; it also important to create a typology of the political texts and bibliography of Polish politolinguistics.
