Summary/Abstract: The tragedy based on ancient motifs is a certain play that has existed since the period of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, and immediately after their “departure from the stage”. As a genre, tragedy developed depending on the epoch, through Virgil, then later Shakespeare, Racine, Goethe, and all the way to modern readings of tragedies based on ancient motifs, such as “Antigone” and “Medea” by Jean Anouih, “Flies” by Jean Paul Sartre, “Antigone” by Bertold Brecht, to Miller’s “Medea” and “Philoctetes”. Having in mind the significance and complexity of the work on the staging of dramatic texts based on ancient motifs, it is very interesting to consider and analyze the plays based on the mentioned textual stream, which were produced in the first decades of the third millennium. From such relations, it is possible, on the one hand, to conclude about the interest in ancient drama, and on the other about the creative capacities of the protagonists to cope and bring the burden and all the multi-layeredness of these dramas to the stage. Even more attention is drawn to situations in which plays based on ancient motifs were created as the work of students at high schools of dramatic arts, and the same were later produced on the stages of academic and professional theaters. The combination of academic and professional theatrical ambience forms a special creative symbiosis characterized by dedication, energy, and creation to complete a complex dramatic endeavor such as working on plays with ancient motifs.
