Summary/Abstract: The method and manner in which a criminal offense is committed are related to the personality of the offender. The basic behavior of a human, found in a criminal field, will be present also in the lifestyle of that human. The interaction between the offender, victim and criminal field will reflect personal characteristics. There are two main methods of profiling, based on deductive and inductive techniques, respectively by the behavioral analysis of the offender in a specific case on one hand, or based on predictions generated by the analysis of the groups of offenders, on the other hand. Also, other approaches to profile achievement have been developed, especially the profiling equation specific to David Canter's investigative psychology and geographical profiling methods. Investigative analysis through profiling techniques should be perceived as an "ingredient" of the criminal investigation, a supportive instrument that helps to define a profile, and not to establish the identity of the perpetrator. An integral part of the judicial investigation, analysis by profiling techniques brings more value in the matter of understanding the criminal behavior regarding the orientation of the investigation, but being not a replacement of the investigators.
