The Part, the Whole, and TheTotalitarian Paradigm

Summary/Abstract: We suggest, as a theoretical approach to the totalitarian phenomenon, a paradigm of the parts and the whole. In this model, the whole designates the social whole, the global society and the competing parts are, depending on the scale envisaged, the state (the states), as well, political parties, pressure groups, governmental and nongovernmental international organizations, new social movements (feminism, environmentalism, neototalitarian fundamentalisms), citizens corpus and masses of individuals. According to this approach, the totalitarian paradigm is that of the part which phagocytes the whole, with more or less tacit support of the other parts and the whole itself.
