Summary/Abstract: The present paper aims to bring into discussion the evolution of the urban space from historical province Oltenia (south-western part of present Romania). Based on the analysis of special sources, especially the cartographic and narrative ones, we noticed an interesting dynamic of cities ands small towns from Oltenia in the 18th Century and the first decades of the 19th Century. They saw a resize both in terms of number (cities who disappear or reappear after decades of silence), and in terms of size, despite a political and military context far to be favorable to any development.
