Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present the achievements in the field of theory of education of Max van Manen, professor emeritus of University of Alberta (Canada), who is regarded as one of the leading representatives of phenomenological pedagogy in the world. An attempt was made to present his reflection on the teaching process. The subject of the article is focused on discovering the meaning of experience in the teaching process. The reflection of Max van Manen is presented against the background of the research carried out in this area in Europe and in the world in the tradition of human science research and in relation to the most famous researchers dealing with the issues, such as Tone Saevi, Norm Friesen, Steven R. Smith or Gert Biesta.
