Summary/Abstract: The article aims to explain how teaching History and Civilizations in the 6th grade contributes to the formation of notions of the economic life as well as to the formation of initial economic literacy of the school students. Learning about the medieval era gives school students a chance to acquire some important economic concepts. The article examines, analyzes and compares the current textbooks with regard to the above purpose. The author points out some good examples in the textbooks that contribute most to building students’ initial economic literacy, which is an important part of shaping their civic culture. Young people’s knowledge about economic life in the past can be useful for them in regard of their future successful inclusion in the economic and social life of the Bulgarian society.
