Summary/Abstract: Based on studies of other specialists but also on documents of thetime, this study proposes an analyse of the evolution of the aristocratic elite fromOltenia. The author notes the changes that have affected the elite category,forced to seek new repositioning in modern society. Prestige derived fromadministrative and military career or success in business will try to sustain aposition in a society where membership in a social group begins to meet newdefinitions. The statistic dimension of the Oltenian boyards presence in the stateaffairs is also taken into account.
