Summary/Abstract: The broad intention of this paper was to examine architectural ruins as cultural indicators of one society, and how the importance of certain buildings in collective consciousness can be transformed by the act of destruction, but also by the act of reconstruction. The narrower focus of the research is on the consequences of the NATO bombing of Belgrade in 1999. The cases of three buildings of different political and cultural characters will be analyzed – Ušće Business Center, Radio Television of Serbia headquarters, and the building of Yugoslav Ministry of Defense, with the intention to understand the relationship between their current condition and cultural significance.
