Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development is linked to the economic efficiency of community production. Within the framework of sustainable development, three main groups of issues are raised: environmental, affecting the state of the natural equilibrium; economically relevant to the environmental capacity of production; and social, economic and natural conditions related to the living of the population: zeal, education and training, health, access to the clean natural environment. The role of government to stimulate sustainable development is complex and in all its forms of impact: financial; organizational; normative; community. At the company level, the leadership of every company should define precisely the principles for building a system for sustainable development and environmental management.
